I don't often leave reviews but in this instance I think I should as I am appalled by the unworthy remarks about the hall manager from the previous review. I have now booked this hall twice, the first time for my daughters wedding a couple of years ago, then I booked it for my Wedding anniversary, a few months back. The bookings were not straightforward or easy. Both bookings the dates were changed numerous times for one reason or the other. The manager remained calm, humerous and understanding, and when I burst into tears in her office she was amazingly kind to me, through the stress. She made it clear what we could do and couldn't do and we would be charged for. The review sounds more like it was the wedding couple themselves who are the problem not the manager. I would and have recommended this hall to many people and not just because it is a a lovely hall but the manager was very supportive.
A modern village hall in beautiful surroundings; spoilt by restrictive terms of hire and rude staff. We had our wedding reception here in April 2017 and unfortunately cannot recommend this venue. We knew we wanted a modern village hall for our wedding reception and Boxgrove Village Hall ticked all the boxes. It has a modern, fresh feel, good facilities, is in a beautiful country village with the Boxgrove Priory opposite for photos. It should have been perfect for us. Unfortunately, the management was so poor it has tainted the memory of our Wedding Day. Things started out ok with just a few small issues e.g. You aren’t allowed to visit the venue on a weekend, which makes planning a bit tricky, especially if you are, like we were, doing all the decorations yourselves – not a huge issue and we worked around this. Then we had a few issues with the AV equipment: After being assured the microphone and speakers were included in the price as we were paying a lot due to it be a wedding hire, we were then told, just weeks before the wedding that there would in fact be a £50 charge. This was further aggravated by the fact the microphones cut out half way through the best man’s speech leaving most guests unable to hear what was being said. When we raised this with the manager, it was simply dismissed out of hand. Unfortunately, things only got worse. The day before the wedding the manager left while we were still setting up, she didn’t say goodbye, or give us a handover, leaving us without a key and therefore relying on our caterers (under our hire and nothing to do with the venue) for access. The morning after our wedding we arrived early to tidy up to find a load of builders in one of the rooms doing work – despite the fact we had the hall on private hire that morning (again no apology for this). The manager arrived later to check us out and rather than a pleasant greeting, or even a hello, we just got “are you done yet?” She started getting quite angry and things got heated and we had to be the ones to try to calm the situation down – needless to say we left the venue feeling angry at the way we had been treated. A few weeks later we were back in touch with the manager due to a dispute with our deposit plus we felt we wanted to give feedback on how we felt we had been treated. Not only was the manager unwilling to discuss our genuine grievances about the deposit (she just put a cheque for half the deposit amount in the post with no discussion or explanation), she didn’t bother to respond to our additional feedback. When we questioned her further on this, she replied saying “As I had already explained why we were holding back some of your deposit I am not sure why you expect a response to your email” and in reference to our additional feedback she replied stating “The rest of your email was just padding”. Her belittling tone plus implication that our concerns were, in essence, a waste of her time, is unprofessional and rude. We know that she (and the hall committee) will play down our complaint as ‘sour grapes’ for us not receiving our full deposit back – an example similar to our experience was given to us when we first viewed the hall and we believed her – but be warned, she will behave like this again and once you have started planning based on a specific venue there is little you can do to without significant impact. The venue is nice but the manager is patronising, unhelpful, and not what you need on the biggest day of your life.
After my email to you, I had no reply from Boxgrove Hall at all. Very disapointed.
Had my wedding at Boxgrove. It was amazing. We decorated the hall in my chosen colours. The manager was happy for us to have our own caterer in during the day and in the evening we had take away pizza! The location of the hall lovely and the large hall is brilliant. Fantastic building - fantastic time.
