Cost effective kids party catering

I've done a lot of "traditional" kids Birthday parties over the years, which can typically include making a LOT of sandwiches, which you then find yourselves eating for a couple  of days until the corners are well and truly curled.

Muddle Through Mummy on Instagram recently shared how she catered for her most recent kids party, with minimal food waste, and minimal effort. And for under £30. (It seems she was catering for 12 kids.)

She followed the approach lots of supermarkets and days out have adopted over the years, where each child gets a little lunch box with a few select items in it. She started off with a selection of cardboard lunch boxes (that's an affiliate link to Amazon) - she paid £7.49 for 15, but there are options of as little as £4 for 10 on Amazon. Please try to ensure any you get can be recycled after use.

Next she made cheese, ham or jam rolls - having given each guest a choice on their invite. 1 bread roll per kid helps cut down on hassle and food waste. Next they got a packet of PomBears - usually a favourite with little people, and about the lowest salt content you can get in crisps, a satsuma, a tube yogurt, and a bag of mini cookies. She put the rolls in freezer / food bags, so that added to the budget... if you could wrap them in greaseproof paper which could then be composted that would help reduce the plastic count of the lunch boxes.

With crisps, mini cookies and yogurt it certainly feels like a party lunch, plus the kids get the excitement of delving into their box to see what they've got! But the catering was as simple as making some quick bread rolls. For drinks, a couple of jugs of squash saves on costs and on a lot of rubbish or recycling compared to individual juices or Fruit Shoots.
