This is something I've always believed, since my days long ago running a wedding planning website. If you plan your wedding well in advance, it'll end up costing you more than if you do more in the immediate run up.
Obviously there's the argument that if you leave things to the last minute then you might have to pay more of a premium to get what you want - only being able to get the expensive version because everything else is booked, or even needing to pay more in delivery if we're talking really really last minute. (Not to mention not being able to get what you really want.)
But my point is that those who plan their wedding completely in advance and have 6 months of sitting back and twiddling their thumbs waiting for the big day... well they want to be doing something in that time! And that "doing" equates to spending more!
There is always more you can spend on a wedding! Always more decorations you can source, or extra bits and pieces you can add to favours. Even down to thank you gifts or accessories for the wedding party on the morning of the big day. And if you've got time to explore these extras, then you could well end up spending a lot more than if you'd just got the "essentials" done in good time.
Don't get me wrong, spending more isn't necessarily a bad thing - all those little extras you've got time and headspace to consider might be what you feel makes the day even more special. But maybe, if you do need to be careful of budget, and you are in the position of having finished planning the main event early, keep an eye on what else you spend and question the extras as they come into view.
