The Centre Bury St.Edmunds

The Centre, St. Johns Street, Bury St.Edmunds, IP33 1SN, Suffolk, England

based on 4 reviews
This is a welcoming community venue that is open daily to people of all ages and backgrounds. The Centre has three spaces for hire for a range of activities, services and events. The Centre is a beautifully restored former school close to the historical centre of charter market town Bury St Edmunds. The sympathetic restoration, completed in 2011 and with energy efficiency in mind, has retained the original features of the Victorian building such as arched and mullion windows, period doors and exposed brickwork; whilst adding to its character with the use of sensitive contemporary colours and lighting. Naturally light and airy with high ceilings and wooden floors, The Centre offers three spaces for hire. The two main halls are separated by a folding wall which can open to create one larger space. The Centre is easily accessible from the town centre and is within five minutes walk of bus and railways stations and long stay car parking. We have free Wifi throughout the building, are on ground floor throughout and have level access WC and baby changing facilities. We offer favourable rates for charities and community groups and charge per session (morning, afternoon, evening). Our capacity for the whole building is 100. The Centre was previously called The St John's Centre and is often still referred to as this. There is also a fair trade shop and cafe, Just Traid, in the same building. This serves homemade cakes, light lunches and snacks Tues to Sat 10am till 4pm. Reviews of The Centre Bury St.Edmunds

  • I have taught in many places but never found such a relaxed and congruent environment for both teaching and learning. My learners adore the centre. for me a dream come true thanks to the help and guidance from the empathic centre manager Sue. The centre serves many functions and groups, but above all,it epitomises living. Many thanks - Mike

  • The Centre in St John's Street is a beautiful venue, combining the traditional building with its modern facilities. The halls are kept very clean, are well presented, and having held classes there over the winter, the heating is excellent! Sue and Phil at The Centre are friendly and welcoming, and as a new small business I found them very supportive and encouraging. I highly recommend this venue. Liz - Hartbeeps.

  • The St Johns Centre is a wonderful venue to hire. As a group we have to hire many venues and this is by far the best. All the rooms are lovely and well presented. They are well equipped and clean. It has been recently renovated and completed to very high standards, being sure to capture the beauty in each room, of this wonderful old building, but keeping a modern and contemporary feel to the halls. Phil & Sue at the St Johns Centre are just amazing, nothing is ever to much trouble they are so warm and welcoming. Definitely our first choice !
