About Cilcain Village Hall
Cilcain Village Hall is a stone-built community hall which was converted from Cilcain’s 1842 Victorian School when Ysgol y Foel was built in the 1960′s. The main part of the Village Hall has recently been refurbished. The Hall can be booked for events and functions for which tables and chairs are available. It is ideal for group activities such as crafts, art and yoga, and for short courses and for meetings of work colleagues in a rural context. There are also kitchen facilities. We do not offer facilities for teenage parties, and only let to adult parties, subject to the Management Committee's discretion, when the booking is secured by a bond. We regret that the Hall cannot be booked between noon and 5.30 pm on Saturdays when it is used for Community Cafes, with the exception of August (see below). The Main Hall can accommodate up to 80 people (depending on seating requirements) and can have some basic rostrum staging and basic stage lighting (bookable separately). Recently, the old Committee Room has been converted to accommodate the Community Shop and there are plans to refurbish the Old School Kitchen for use as a flexible, multi-purpose community room which would also be available to visitors. Rates vary depending on proposed usage, but are reasonable (see website for details). Rates are reduced for Village residents. The Hall is in the midst of outstanding walking country, some 15 minutes off the Offas Dyke Path, and actually on the Clwydian Way. The Hall has a kitchen, but is also close to the village pub (the White Horse) which opens most lunchtimes and serves meals. The village is inside the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is an attractive walk away from Moel Famau and from Loggerheads Country Park. The Village Hall and the adjacent Waen Field are the location for a Village Show each August Bank Holiday Monday. The Hall hosts a Community Cafe every Saturday from 2-5 p.m. except in August: for this reason the Hall is never available between noon and 5.30 p.m. on Saturdays, and Saturday all day bookings are not available. Limited parking is adjacent to the Hall, and there is additional parking for visitors to the area at Pedair Groesffordd within walking distance. The Hall is adjacent to a bowling green and backs on to the Waen field, which has a fenced childrens’ play area.
