COVID-19 update: The Arkenstall Centre is currently closed because of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. While we have made the Centre 'Covid secure' we are, at the moment, only able to offer rooms for hire for exempt activities.
The main business of the Arkenstall Centre - in the middle of the village of Haddenham, near Ely - is the hiring out of facilities for meetings, functions and events. It is also the centre of village activities for local groups – art classes, exercise groups, drama groups, concerts and the village pantomime. The Centre also plays host to the village library access point providing a link to the county’s public library service for Haddenham and surrounding villages.
The Centre has three rooms for hire: a 200-seat main hall with a stage, and two smaller meeting rooms each seating about 40 people. There is a well-equipped kitchen, and on-site parking.
Bookings are taken for morning, afternoon or evening sessions, but the most you'll have to pay is equivalent to £7.25 per hour for a meeting room, and £14.50 per hour for the Main Hall. There are discounts for regular bookers, charities, and local organisations that are represented on the management committee.
Although the centre was converted from its original purpose as the village school back in 1972, there is an ongoing programme of updates and improvements to keep the facilities fresh and modern while retaining the building's original character.
Availability and Hire Costs
Availability: While we have a number of regular bookings during 'term times' (eg, the two meeting rooms are used each Monday morning and Thursday evening), all the rooms in the Centre are available every day - morning, afternoon and evening, with a possible midnight finish on Fridays and Saturdays - all year (except Christmas Day). There are restrictions at the moment as we keep the Centre COVID-19 Safe, so contact the Bookings Officer for details.
Hire Costs: The facilities are hired out by the period: morning, afternoon and evening. The most you will pay for a meeting room is £29 / period (equivalent to £7.25 / hour), and for the Main Hall £58 / period (equivalent to £14.50 / hour). Discounts on the per period hire rates are available for organisations or individuals that are prepared to help with the management and maintenance of the Centre; that want to hire the whole Centre; that want to hire facilities for consecutive periods; that make regular bookings; that are working or collecting for a recognised charity; or that want to book a short period of less than two hours. There is a surcharge for a Friday or Saturday late finish.
