Shieldfield Art Works

Shieldfield Art Works is an art gallery & community space a ten-minute walk away from Newcastle City Centre. We have our own car park and are close to public transport. We have two large rooms, plus a beautiful community garden. The site as a whole or individual rooms can be hired for public or private events.

Gallery Space:

Ideal for presentations, meetings, conferences and performances. With high ceilings, a small staged area, and bright white walls it’s a spacious, yet inviting room. It has excellent natural acoustics, making it perfect for band, choir or theatre rehearsals. Availability of the gallery is dependent on our exhibition programme.

*Plus room for multiple people on the small stage area.

Workshop Space:

A more intimate space, this room is ideal for creative workshops, meetings, rehearsals and AGMs. There is also access to SAW’s kitchen through a hatch.

Garden Space:

The garden includes raised beds, wildflowers, apple and cherry trees alongside a grassed area and patio area with a covered pergola. Perfect for events, meetings, outdoor gatherings and retreats.

Facilities:

We have plenty of tables & chairs (full list on request). Our building also includes toilets, with an additional accessible toilet & baby change. Our kitchen is stocked with lots of crockery, a coffee maker and a hot water urn. Use of our kitchen is included in the hire cost.

Room hire for charities & regular groups:

As an organisation dedicated to serving the community, we want our building to be used for good. Many charities use SAW regularly, and we can provide space which is welcoming to your groups and participants. Discretionary discounts are available for charities and, in some cases, not-for-profit organisations. 

When making an enquiry, it’s helpful to include the following information:

• If you are booking on behalf of a charity or not for profit organisation – you may be eligible for our charity tariff

• The date(s) and time(s) you would like.

• Which space(s) you would like to hire. If you’re not sure, let us know and we can advise based on the type of event and room capacity.

• Whether your event is private or open to the general public.
